This fall’s big exhibit at Moderna Museet is Dalí Dalí featuring Francesco Vezzoli. In this exhibit audiences will encounter works including over twenty masterpieces by popular twentieth Century artist Salvador Dalí, focusing on his works fråm the 1930’s.

The exhibit runs from September 19 through January 17 2010. Read more on Moderna Museets web site. www.modernamuseet.se

Our little Pixie had a great time. She was running arund the place, screaming with joy. I am not kidding you! Perhaps she is a future artist!?

Eerie masked frolickers gambol

If you have nothing to do this weekend and you live in or close to Stockholm, I recommend that you buy tickets for Saltimbanco by Cirque du Soleil at Ericsson Globe.

Eerie masked frolickers gambol, a flame-haired songstress yowls tunefully in an unearthly language, and a series of performers execute jaw-dropping deeds of human physicality in Cirque du Soleil’s “Saltimbanco.” Event Review by

I understand that there are two shows per day, one at 16.00 and one at 20.00. Tickets at www.ticnet.se

I saw the show last night and it was BRILLIANT!

Sturehof Atumn Show

The current exhibition at Sturehof is a group exhibition.

The show's opening party (yesterday) was brilliant, and now that the actual show has opened today you should head over for a gander. We enjoyed a glass of wine and canapes until our little girl got tired and we headed home.

The show features a number of artists, worth special mention - Marcel Strüwer and Ardy Strüwer.

Other artists include... Pia Crafoord, Stig Östman, Peppe Engberg, Göran Johansson, Olle Ljungström, Marie Fredriksson, Maja Braun, C.A Carlsson, Owe Gustavsson, Anders Thessing, Gunnar Falk, Kjell Åslund, Cato Lein, Helena Davidsson-Neppelberg, Carmen Lindahl, Wiveka Wachtmeister och Claire Wikholm.

Tomorrow in a year! Congratulations!

A couple of weeks ago whilst having a glass of white wine at Humlan we met a guy called Jonathan Johansson. He told us about a project he was working on with Swedish (brother/sister) duo The Knife and Hotel Pro Forma in Copenhagen.

On Sep 2nd 'Tomorrow in a year' premiered in Copenhagen and today they had a fantastic write up in DN (Dagens Nyheter). Congratulations to you Jonathan, we are looking forward to seeing the show in Stockholm in Jan. Sorry we couldn't make it to Denmark!
The world seen through the eyes of Charles Darwin forms the basis for the performance Tomorrow, in a year. Theatre production company Hotel Pro Forma’s striking visuals blend with pop-duo The Knife’s ground-breaking music to create a new species of electro-opera. An opera singer, a pop singer and an actor perform The Knife’s music and represent Darwin, time and nature on stage. Six dancers form the raw material of life, choreographed by hip-hop inspired Hiroaki Umeda. Together with the newest technology in light and sound, our image of the world as a place of incredible variation, similarity and unity is re-discovered.

Like Lipstick Traces...

We ventured over to the South Island (Södermalm) to visit the famous SoFo area. Enjoyed some time in the sun at Nytorget, an ice cream by the fountain and the shops on Bondegatan and Åsögatan.

One shop in particular stood out Konst-ig, where you can find amazing art books and also currently the exhibition Like Lipstick Traces. Whilst my daughter was asleep I enjoyed some time in the shop. (NO, I did not leave her outside on her own, her mother was with her).

LIKE LIPSTICK TRACES shows the everyday life of 13 graffiti writers. Consciously, and therefore in contrast with usual graffiti publications, it uses the peculiar medium of Polaroid.

The idea was to send a Polaroid camera and about one hundred Polaroid photos to graffiti writers of different nationalities, with the task to shoot their everyday life, and to give
them complete freedom in the choice of the motifs. It surely is this kind of freedom which makes this book so special, but also the fact that all these unpublished photos were taken especially for the book.

In the beginning of the 21st century, graffiti seems to be taking a line which is totally against its original motivation. On one hand, this might be caused by more severe penalties, on the other it is due to the increasing incorporation of the media and big business. Thus, we decided to present such artists who devote themselves to this art in a committed way. They do not succumb to commercial pressure and bring new life
into this movement.

Take care,

Mark

Kulturfestivalen 11-16 Aug 2009 - Stockholm

Kulturfestivalen 2009, the fourth instalment of this very popular event starts tomorrow.
Too much is going on for me to provide a synopsis so why don't you visit the official website!?

If you haven't been...

I recommend you visit Moderna Museet, The Modern Museum, here in Stockholm.

A current exhibit REALITY REVISITED, is brilliant and definitely worth a visit. This exhibition features more than 300 photographs from the 1970s, by some 80 photographers hailing mainly from the USA and Sweden. It gives us a look into diverse realities, personalities and narratives on life and art. The featured photographers represent classic black-and-white photography, but they have used various ways to develop their own expressive style.
Just spend a few hours of your day, having a look and a lunch, possibly a glas of wine too.
